Glossary phisical education

Terrain: ground or a piece of ground, esp with reference to its physical character or military potential.
Anaerobic: requiring the absence of or not dependent on the presence of oxygen.
Intensity: the state or quality of being intense.
Fatige: physical or mental exhaustion due to exertion.
Speed: the act or quality of acting or moving fast; rapidity.
Jump: to leap or spring clear of the ground or other surface by using the muscles in the legs and feet.
Throw: to project or cast (something) through the air, esp with a rapid motion of the arm and wrist.
Sprint: a short race run at top speed.
Race: a contest of speed.
Goalkeeper: a player in the goal whose duty is to prevent the ball.

Geographical Glossary

INLET: thin channel of water that leads inland from the sea. Inlets created by glaciation are called fjords and are usually found on mountainous coastlines.

HEADLAND: a small area of land that projects out into the sea.

PENINSULA: a large scale headland surrounded by water on three sides. A peninsula can be connected to the land by a thin stretch called an isthmus.

ISLAND: a piece of land completely surrounded by water. A group of related islands close together form an archipelago.

GULF: an area of sea surrounded by land on three sides. It forms the shape of an arc. A bay is similar but generally smaller.
OCEANIC RIDGE: an underwater mountain range that generally covers a large area and reaches high altitudes.
OCEANIC TRENCH: a long depression on the ocean floor that can be thousands of metres deep.
ABYSSAL PLAIN: a flat area of the ocean floor. They are found at depths of between 3000 and 7000 KM.
CONTINENTAL SHELF: the undersea extension of a continent that descends gradually to depths of around 400 m. the shelf might extend for only a few kilometres under the sea, or it may extend for many.
CONTINENTAL SLOPE: a steep underwater area that links the continental shelf with the ocean floor.
MOUNTAIN: a large landform that is higher than the surrounding land. A mountain range is a continuous chain of mountains.
BASIN: an area of land that is drained by a river or a lake that is lower than the surrounding area.
VALLEY: a valley is a linear depression in the land. A river valley is V-shaped due to the action of a river running through it. Glacial valleys are U-shaped because they have been formed by a moving glacier.
PLATEAU: a flat area of land which sits at a certain altitude above sea level.
PLAIN: a large, open, flat or slightly undulating area of land.
TRIBUTARY: stream, river, or glacier that feeds another larger one.
LAGOON: a body of water cut off from the open sea by coral reefs or sand bars.
MARSH: low poorly drained land that is sometimes flooded and often lies at the edge of lakes, streams, etc.

The origen of the chocolate

The leyend says that rhe chocolate when from the most beautiful tree os the paradise of the Aztecs.
The chocolate comnes from the plant of cacao, the Mayas started to cultivate more than 2500 years ago.
It could only be eaten by the nobles and kings.
 Hernand Cortés brought to spain in 1524.

Glossary: Unit 1

-To take the bull by the horns: Means to deal with a difficult situation in a brave and firm way.
-Two heads are  better than one: Means that when two people work together they are more likely  to salve a problem that one person going it alone.
-To keep your head above water: Means you are just managing to survive despite not, having much money.
-It's easy as a pie: If something is very easy.
-Pie-eyed: If someone is very drunk.
-To have a finger in many pies: I means you are involved in lots of different activities.
-A bad egg: In English if we want to say that someone is bad or dishonest we can call her/him a bad egg.
-Don't pull all your eggs in one basket: You should never rely on only onne  plan in case it goes wrong.
-He got an egg on his face: If someone makes a mistake whitch makes him/her look stupid, we can say this expression.
-Full of beans: Someone is full of energy.
-I haven't got a bean: You don't have money at all.
-Spill the beans: I we want to tell us something secret, we can say to them "spill the beans".
-It's a hot potato: If there is a delicate issure and people can't agree we call it "a 
hot potato".
-They're like two beans in a podIf two people look very similar we use this expression.

-Is as good as a chocolate teapot: In English is something is completely useless we say this expression.
-He's gone bananas: In English if someone is very emocional and start starts shouting and behaving in a crazy way, we can say this expression.
-It's a case os sour grapes: In English nis someone pretends not to be impressed by something because she/he feels jealous we use this expression.
-A second bite of the cherry: In English if we try to do something a second time because we failed at first, we use this expression.
-There are plenty more fish in the sea: It means that are other choices in a situation. It is often said to comfort someone who had a romantic break up.
-The icing on the cake: It is used to refer to something good which is added to an already good thing or situation.
-It's just not cricket: Is used in English to say that something is unfair or dishonest.
-To toy with(somebody or something): Means not to take someone's feeling seriouly.
-A toyboy:Is the younger boyfriend of an older person.

-Like a ton of bricks:  It is used to express something that is very heavy. This expression can be used literally (to describe a heavy weight) or idiomatically(to describe a great surprise or something that is overweight).
-To fly the nest: Means to leave your parents' house for the first time to go and live somwhere else.
-A nest egg:Is an amount os money you have save in the future.
-I wasn't born yesterday: If someone is telling you a very obvious lie you can use this expression.
-To have a whale of a time: Means to have a lot fun while doing something.
-Size of a whale: It is an impolite way of saying they are lange of overweight.
